Understanding the layout

The Advanced Chart Builder is split into two main panels, with a resizable divider between them:

Left Panel: Table View and Data Controls

This panel displays your query result as a data table. Here’s what you can do on this side:

  • Reorder columns by dragging

  • Group rows by dragging a column into the row group area

  • Sort columns by clicking the headers

  • Filter columns using in-column filters

  • Pin, resize, or reset columns via column menus

  • Understand the quantity (number of rows) of data available from the results

You’ll also find two important tabs at the top right of this panel:

  • Columns Tab:

    • Show/hide columns

    • Set row groups

    • Evaluate aggregations and summative values

  • Filters Tab:

    • Apply or adjust filters across any columns

    • Focus the dataset for more targeted insights

Use this panel to shape the structure of your data before visualizing it.

Right Panel: Chart Preview and Customization

This panel displays your chart, updating live as you make changes. You can drag the vertical slider between the two panels to adjust the space allocated to the table or chart panels as needed.

On the far right edge of this panel is a narrow sidebar with three tabs:

  • Setup Tab:

Define the chart’s category and series, and choose how values are aggregated (sum, count, avg, etc.). You can also swap category and series fields to change the chart layout.

  • Chart Tab:

Select the chart type (bar, line, pie, scatter, polar, etc.). Available options depend on your dataset’s structure.

  • Customize Tab:

Adjust axes, series styling, legend position, tooltips, titles, and overall chart layout and padding.
